I Want Your Muddy Laundry...

It is spring, which means if you live in the Midwest or Southwest, you are digging your house out of the snow. Why is spring the “iffy” season? Some times the weather is bright and sunny. Mostly, we are left dealing with rain and wind. If you are a mountain biker, then you have the tools necessary to get through some of those inclement conditions: strong cables, mud tires, thick lube on the chain, rain jacket and pants, lights, heavy gloves and $1.50 to clean off your bike at the local carwash. Yet, riding through muddy or wet conditions takes more than gear. It takes perseverance.

For those of you who don’t know what happens when you ride through mud – think about your car in the mud and magnify the frustration by 100-percent. Your bike takes on excess “mud weight”; tires lose their ability to grip, the brand new XTR rear derailleur you purchased become totally useless. The entire ride can become a nightmare full of screaming, cussing and, sometimes, bike throwing.

I want to hear your mud wrestling stories (any story). Email me some pictures to go along with your tale of dirt. Let’s see the wet dirt flowing through your teeth. Give us passion! Give us MUD…
