Who cares about chocolate anymore?

Wasn't there a time in history when chocolate ruled the single-serving snack food mind-set? If I'm not mistaken, it was probably the favorite item for soilders in their MRE's (meals ready to eat) during WWII. The website Candy USA claims that chocolate bars inside the MRE was not only a nutritional factor, but also a moral booster. I'd also argue that chocolate has broken all the barriers to entry when it comes to athletic supplements. If you look at all the options out there for athletes then you'll notice bars, drinks, chewy things, Gu's and snacking options all contain some kind of chocolate. When I'm about to race, nothing makes me happier than a chocolate Gu, so I guess I'm similar to the soilder in this matter: happy and ready to fight.
