Rush Limbaugh's conservative radio show recently released a musical parody about Barack Obama. Titled, "Barack the Magic Negro", and created by Limbaugh's buddy, a parodist, Paul Shanklin, whose work frequently airs on Mr. Limbaugh’s show, the song follows the "Puff The Magic Dragon" melody. Limbaugh has defended it against critics who called it racist. He said he the song was inspired by a LA Times opinion column writer, David Ehrenstein, who likened Mr. Obama to “warm and unthreatening” black figures like the actors Sidney Poitier and Morgan Freeman.
And that is suppossed to make us feel better? Many Repbulicans have denounced the act as disprescpectful and outright stupid for any candidate to even pay attention to it. Newt Gingrich said, “This is so inappropriate that it should disqualify any Republican National Committee candidate who would use it."
The bigger question I have is why does this stuff happen? What does Limbaugh have to gain from something like this? Why?
