SSWC: Durango Is Back!

It wasn't the tequila and beer stations on the race course that made the single speed world championships in Durango, CO buzz. Nor was it the massive costume scene before, during and after the race. It couldn't have been the hard-core course in Durango's Telegraph trail system. Nope, what made the Single Speed World Championships? The people...

Single speeders are a unique blend of suffer-hungry athletes, fashion moguls and single-minded uber fun-goers. They don't conform to the idea of spandex and tame jerseys. Instead, they go big with wigs, multi-colored wool socks and big glasses. Their races are all about having as big a smile as possible and making it bigger as the day goes on.

It isn't all seriousness at the Single Speed World Championships...

These folks know how to have a good time by showing off their rider cards...

And then there's this classic shot... 666, the old highway near Cortez, CO, or... "Could it be SATAN"

It takes personality to single speed, so why not get crazy! Check out this video from The Durango Herald and you'll get a better picture of the madness that was the Single Speed World Championships.

Also, Durango hosted a jump jam before the race. Check it out:
