With great performances, dialogue and intertwined plot, the 2006 movie Little Children, staring Kate Winslet, was, in my mind, a worthy exploration of suburban stress. Rarely do we have the gift to calculate the emotions of our fellow man, yet in movies many times the frustrations are so palpable we move on in our minds and disregard the story. Not so in Little Children, one is never presented bliss, but, instead several stressful lives of non-living, which unite to paint a suburban hell.
There is cheating, death and a disturbing sexual predator, and the movie unites them all very well. But the cheating is what gets to me... Whenever these movies come about with cheating scenes, I wonder why. In my opinion, it is the lack of true living that causes one to destroy what they have through fantasy affairs. And the movie makes this point strongly... A worthy rent for any Sunday night!
