Five Life Impactors - Tools / Ideas / Physicals / Mentals

Opinions, thoughts and recommendations on things: shredding outdoors, books, music, outdoor gear, tech, training and mental fortitude... Oh, and one picture from the week. Enjoy.

Pic Of The Week: this isn't some amazing pic or anything, but our snowfall is! That's outside my front door... That's four feet of snow!!! That's my truck in front. I've lived in this town for 18 years and I've never seen this much snow!

  1. Check out Go Go Penguin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UtAV_azaBc&list=RD-UtAV_azaBc&start_radio=1 This Jazz group is cinematic in sound (similar to Hidden Orchestra). And as the notes grab you, like a cool pillow for a hothead, you will get deeper in to the music. Strong lead piano, and excellent drumming... The Bass is pure melody mixed in - just as it should be.
  2. Heard of the FlyLow Chemical pant? https://flylowgear.com/collections/mens-pants Well, it sure seems that everyone has! FlyLow or "Carhartt of the snow" created a snow pant that has Cordura reinforcements and a tough outer layer. I was looking for an all-around snow pant, and one that was a little thicker for resort days. What's more, I'm tired of all the lack of zippers! Lightweight is great, but saving 200 grams for a lack of internal AND external venting zips is just silly, to me.
  3. Doing a follow-up on the Dakine Heli Vest https://www.dakine.com/en-us/bags/backpacks/snow-backpacks/heli-vest/ I hit a MONSTER powder day at Wolf Creek ski area last weekend, and this thing was baller! All my gear in one place, amazing side-country savior and kept the wind from sneaking in to my jacket. Highly recommend this vest.
  4. I'm currently reading Halsey's Typhoon https://www.amazon.com/Halseys-Typhoon-Fighting-Admiral-Untold/dp/0802143377 This is one amazing read! Admiral Halsey was a "fighting Admiral" during WWII. In the Pacific war theatre, he commanded one of the most powerful sailing fleets to ever run the seas. However, one of the most powerful Typhoons would be his undoing... This book: how a modern Navy couldn't tackle the seas, and the lack of technological progress. Incredible story!
  5. And finally, a quote that's got me thinking: “If you really want to escape the things that harass you, what you’re needing is not to be in a different place but to be a different person.” Lucius Annaeus Seneca, Letters from a Stoic
